Synopsis
In 1970, Brazil and the world seemed to have been turned upside-down, but 12 year-old Mauro's worries have nothing to do with the military regime controlling the country. His biggest dream is to see Brazil become three-time winner of the Soccer World Cup. Suddenly, he is torn from his parents and taken to live in a "strange" and fun-filled community - Bom Retiro, a district in São Paulo, home to a large Jewish and Italian community, among other cultures.
Director
The Year. is Cao Hamburger's second feature-length film. His first was Castelo Rá-Tim-Bum, which won excellent reviews and was very popular with audiences. On TV, he is responsible for successes such as one of the acclaimed City of Man series or, more recently, the series Filhos do carnaval, produced for HBO and considered by critics as the best Brazilian TV program of the year 2006.
