Bossa Massa is a bossa nova that has lived up Toronto's musicla scene since 2007. This group has brought a taste of the Brazil to Canadian audiences. It is formed by Betty Santos (vocals), Richard Stafford (acoustic guitar) and Luciano Porto (percussion). Betty Santos, a Brazilian residing in Toronto, since 2005, dedicates herself to her ultimate passion-singing Brazilian music. She has studied vocals at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and trained with Elaine Overholt. Richard Stafford has been stringing tunes since 1967. Starting with finger-style folk music he moved to classical guitar, studying at the Vancouver Community College Music School and at UBC. Now back in Toronto he teamed up with Betty and Luciano to pursue an old love: bossa nova. Brazilian born Luciano Porto is a percussionist, multi-instrumentalist, composer and recently director of Bavia Arts Studio. He has been performing in numerous groups of varied styles.
