Luísa is a romantic, dreamy young woman, and Jorge a mild-mannered man of good economic standing. Although they hardly know each other, they marry. Luísa is a model wife and homemaker, "she was happy as a bird" until everything changes when she stumbles upon her childhood love: her cousin Basílio. What begins as a great adventure turns into a nightmare, and Luisa will come to learn the price of infidelity.
Adapted from the novel of the same title by Eça de Queiros, one of the greatest novelists of Portuguese literature.
