The year is 1962, driven by a feeling of hope and new beginnings spreading over Brazil, a group of five friends form a Bossa Nova band with the dream of revolutionizing popular music and as a result, Brazil. They are given the chance to perform at the legendary Bossa Nova concert at Carnegie Hall and venture to New York against all odds. Then one day when walking in Central Park, Joaquim, the pianist (Rodrigo Santoro - "300", "Love Actually", "Carandiru", "Lost"), is hypnotized by a melody flowing from a nearby flute. Instantly, he is smitten by the beautiful Brazilian musician, Gloria, who ends up keeping each one of the boys under her spell. Inspired by real musicians of the Bossa Nova era, Out of Tune is a story about the experiences and transformations of the lives of passionate, creative and idealist artists.
