On Monday, September 8th, 2008, during the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), Brazil Film Fest (BRAFF) had its media launch at a TIFF celebrity hotspot: the Intercontinental Hotel Yorkville. The event was hosted by the Brazil-Canada Chamber of Commerce (BCCC) and the Canadian Heritage, Trade Routes Program and celebrated co-production in the audiovisual field between Brazil and Canada, while making a tribute to 50 years of Bossa Nova, to the enchanting voice and tunes performed by Luanda Jones.

Present at this event were BCCC members, Brazil and Canada government representatives, and professionals from the Canadian and Brazilian film production and distribution sectors.

Speakers for the night were: Cintia Zanellato, director of the Board for BCCC; Susan King, International co-productions, Telefilm Canada; Kadija de Paula, Board Member of the Brazil Film Fest, and Bruno Barreto, Brazilian film director and guest of honor for the evening, with his world premiere of "Last stop: bus 174" in Toronto.

The event not only created an attractive networking opportunity, but also provided a forum for business awareness by informing on the importance and value of co-producing in the audiovisual industry and about special tax benefits programs that Canadian companies can take advantage of when investing in filmmaking and distribution in Brazil.
