This documentary discusses capoeira and its many stories, in one of the
places that it started in Brazil: the Recôncavo. “Memórias do Recôncavo”
reconstructs the history of events and characters involved in this
important manifestation of the African-Brazilian culture, from
interviews of former residents as well as scholars and researchers, thus
bringing an even richer collection of archival footage to this
documentary. The film also tries to reconstruct the story of a famous
character of the area and an icon of capoeira: the legendary Besouro
Mangangá.
