João Rodrigo Mattos is born in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Since
his childhood he used to go to Porto da Barra beach, where the film
takes place. After few years spent outside the country, the good
memories of this place and city awoke the imaginary that makes up
the history of the film Trampolim do Forte, described
by the director as “a fictitious ethnography”.
Since 15 years, João Rodrigo Mattos works in different areas of the
film production, in Brazil, Portugal, England and Spain. He has been
the assistant of great directors Manoel de Oliveira, Mika
Kaurismaki, Edgar Navarro, among others. Agostinho da Silva –
Um Pensamento Vivo is his first feature-length, directed in
2006 for the centenary of the Brazilian-Portuguese humanist and
thinker.
João Rodrigo is also a project manager, film director, screenwriter
and producer in DocDoma production.
