Uma Nota Festival of Tropical Expressions 2012

The festival returns to Toronto on October 20 and 21, 2012, with a full lineup of cultural programming for the open-minded, unpretentious and tropically adventurous. The two-day, two-night affair includes live and DJ musical performances, workshops, talks and panel discussions, food and drink and co-presentations of two Brazilian films, in partnership with Brazil Film Fest.

The second annual three-day festival again incorporates not only live and DJ musical performances into the celebration, but also workshops, a talk series, films, food and drink.

Sunday, October 21, noon to 6 p.m. at Supermarket
World Roots Community Cultural Fair – Talks include “What is Quality Brazilian Music?” with Gordon Sheard, and “World Music: What does it mean today?”, a panel discussion moderated by Sergio Elmir, with David Dacks, Ken Stowar and more; workshops by Pitú cachaça (caipirinhas) and Maracatu Mar Aberto (Brazilian folkloric dance); food and treats by ChocoSol; musical performances by Jô Lutério (Brazilian “roda de samba”), A New Tradition (Afro-Colombian), Maria Bonita and The Band (forró), DJ Mogpaws and more.  Admission: FREE event (donations accepted)

Sunday, October 21, 7 p.m. at Revival in partnership with Brazil Film Fest
Closing party for Brazil Film Fest and Uma Nota Festival of Tropical Expressions, featuring Pedro Luís and his band.

Admission: Advance tickets $25, available at the Royal Theatre during Brazil Film Fest, and online at www.brazilfilmfest.net. $35 at the door or $25 at the door with wristband from the Flagship Event (Saturday).
