Inspired by the myths and legends of the real life character João Francisco dos Santos, also known as Madame Satã – a glittering cross-dressing singer with a remarkable talent to enter the skin of many different characters. Set in the 1930s, in the bohemian neighborhood Lapa, home to pimps, prostitutes, thieves and misfits of every stripe, the film is an intimate journey of a man who challenged the multiple stigmas of being illiterate, black, poor, and gay in quest of a dream: to become a stage star.
